Nico Gonzalez, make or break.

Last year around this period, Nico extended his contract with the club in hope to make it to the first team. His performances with Barça B had given him the status of 'long term replacement of Busquets'. A good display during the pre-season, and some promising appearances in the right CM position earned him a first team spot by January. And that's when the problem started.

With the return of Pedri, the progress of Gavi and De Jong being undisputed, Nico had fewer minutes and had to make his apprearences as a DM. And since in this club, the law is "we can't replace Busquets", the youngster had struggled a lot.

Nico, is a different player from Busi. He doesn't have the vision and passing of our captain but he brings something else. He's a guy with an imposing physique and moves pretty fast for a man of his height. He helps defensively. He's almost an old school number 6 who just recovers balls and passes them to teammates. Expecting him to break the opposition with laser pass like Busquests almost condemns him to failure. Just like any player who tried so in the past decade.

Busquets is turning 34 this week and enters the last year of his contract. This season needs to be the ultimate transitional one and the big test for Nico that can make him the long awaited replacement or break any hope we have on him.
